Ethical Neutering

The "Right of Conscience" rule set in motion by gool ol' Bushy back in August is slowly on its way to being overturned. This rule allows virtually anyone in the health care field to refuse service to anyone if they deem it to be against their ethical beliefs. This could include everything from prophylactics to family planning to blood transfusions, and everything in between.

This situation has become far too ridiculous and I'm proud that Obama is working on reversing the issue.

CNN has a good article you can read. My favorite quote from that article:

"We don't make God-like decisions. ... That's not what it's about for us. It's about helping the patient make their own decision. ... No one appointed us to be the ultimate person to pass judgment," said Mary Jean Schumann, a member of the American Nurses Association.

As a member of the health care system, it should be your primary job to make sure your patient or client is getting the care that is best for him/her. Leave your scruples at home. You should've become what you are in order to help people, not force your beliefs onto them. Personal values are just that: personal. Help, don't hinder.
